Nick’s Question or Topic

Nick is from Portland, Oregon, and is currently doing PPC marketing. He studied Computer Science in college, then shifted to Graphic Design, changed major again, and dropped out eventually. He wasn’t that motivated to finish because he’s only doing it for his mom because he wanted to make her proud. So what Nick did next is to figure out what he wants to do in life. He began taking pictures, did retail management, pursued information technology until he finally found out about marketing, which changed his life.

Even though he loved his corporate job, Nick realized that he wanted to do more and wanted to help small companies. So he asks Gary if it would be a good idea to make a pitch to the CEO of the company he’s working with, and what could be the other options for him.

Gary’s Story and Advices

When Gary was still young, the only reason why he went to college is to play games, to gamble, and to flip stuff. He paid off all the employees in the Boston area to keep all the starting lineups of Star Wars, Power Rangers, and Spice Girl figures in the back. And then, when he was supposed to be in class, Gary would drive around and pick up all the toys they kept in the back so he would sell them on eBay for $80 a figure, where he would buy it for $7.99.

Gary recommends Nick to pursue pitching an idea to his CEO. Gary thinks that it’s gonna work because the CEO is a good guy, creates jobs for people, open to new ideas, promotes a healthy company culture, and has the same views as him. Because of these reasons, Gary wants to meet Nick’s boss and know more about him.

With Nick’s potential, Gary wants him to make a pitch for him, and may let him work at VaynerMedia.

Another option he advised to Nick was to have his own brand.
