Caitlin’s Question or Topic

Caitlin has been successful in the medical device field. As she moves up to the executive role, she is struggling as she feels like she’s losing her authenticity. So Caitlin asks Gary how to not lose her authenticity and if it’s better to go into entrepreneurship if someone, like her, loves the grind.

Gary’s Story and Advices

According to Gary, moving up in a corporation is like playing politics and that’s the nature of the game. However, there’s a huge difference between 100% transparent authenticity and compromising who you really are. What Caitlin needs to do in order to navigate her executive role is to not compromise herself and undermine somebody for her own gain or sell something that she doesn’t believe in.

On entrepreneurship:

If someone loves the grind, that doesn’t mean that one needs to be an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship is a skill a person needs to master. For Caitlin, Gary suggested that she try it so she wouldn’t have to regret it when she grows older.
