Kevin’s Question or Topic

Kevin is a parent of four kids and two dogs. His firstborn, by all accounts, is a traditional student. His fear as a parent is that his son will end up excellent at whatever he does, but not loving it. So the question is about how parents help their sons pursue what they truly love.

Gary’s Story and Advices

Some kids figured out the school system, and they feel safe, which is why they will take a secure job. But they’re not going to be passionate or on fire. So Kevin must communicate to his son, and treat him as an adult and say Look, this is a potential. Or you observe them and pay attention to things they do outside of school.

One instance is when Kevin found out that Brady (the son) likes math and thinks of becoming an engineer. Kevin can say that it’s excellent, and Brady can explore opportunities, such as trading in stocks, or running defense analytics. What Kevin wants to do in that sense is not letting him pick one option, and educate on what math infrastructure is on everything.

Where kids get f*cked and where parents get f*cked is all the conversations around how successful AKA financially they are, or status, not happy. ~ Gary Vaynerchuk

“We have to be careful not to over demonize school the way that we grew up where it was put on a pedestal.” ~ Gary Vaynerchuk
