Dean’s Question or Topic

Dean is a businessman. He recently launched a fast-casual brand in Nashville. However, the pandemic has forced them to pivot their approach. Dean asked when Gary divested from his brand, himself, or persona, and started focusing on content for his businesses. Dean asked the question because he noticed that people do better in social media marketing or content delivery, rather than businesses talking.

Gary’s Story and Advices

According to Gary, some businesses do better in engagement and building audiences, but they don’t necessarily do better in business results. For example, being very effective on LinkedIn in a B2B business can annihilate revenue compared to an influencer who has 4 million followers. The latter might be better in the metrics people see, but they might not be doing great business results if they look under the hood.

So Dean must look at it very well because a lot of people have tons of followers because they are funny or attractive, but it does not lead to sales.

On Dean’s brand, Gary wants him to put out all his best advice for free about what small businesses should be thinking about from a text standpoint. For example, he can create something detailed in video form saying that people are not gonna hire him, which might give the reverse effect.
