Con’s Question or Topic

Con was born in Greece but was raised in Australia since he was three years old. He is a second-year university student doing exercise science, and his goal is to work in high-performance sport. About a month ago, Con started branding himself a lot more by starting social media accounts such as Instagram, LinkedIn, and created his website. As he begins his journey, Con wants to know how he can provide more value considering that he is a younger and more inexperienced coach.

Gary’s Story and Advices

With his age and lack of experience – which gives him no leverage of results from athletes – Gary believes that his place is in hypotheses and opinions.

Gary remembered being in a similar position as Con when he first walked into Wine Library. Many people, especially young adults, has a mentality that only expertise can bring leverage to business so they fake it till they make it by giving information that they, themselves, don’t understand.

Gary would suggest sharing ideas. Most individuals don’t like to share ideas because they think people will steal them; however, he believes that if you put it out on the internet first, it’s almost like you owns it, and others can’t steal it.

Until he has clients and about 15 years of experience, Con does not have any other choice but to put himself out there and to be very careful not to make things up. Gary wants him to avoid being one of those people in social media who are almost lying, bullsh*tting, embellishing, tricking to seem like an authority when they’re not because this will not work in the end. It might in the short term, but will get exposed in the long run.

Gary also recommends documenting the journey of growing who Con is going to become, such as talking about frustrations, trying out some theories on friends, ideas he has, doing green screen not just for business purpose but for his future grandchildren, as well.
