Chris’s Question or Topic

Chris is a principal of a K12 school in Minnesota. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, their students haven’t been in school. He is doing his best to support them, especially the seniors who won’t be having a prom and graduation. Chris is on Tea With GaryVee to ask Gary what advice can he give to the students during this time. He also asks Gary what can he do to reach out and support children with their mental health.

Gary’s Story and Advices

Since Chris already knows that Gary’s advice is to go down the empathy, compassion, and the perspective path, Gary just added the final equation which is innovation. He suggested that they could have a virtual prom or graduation via live stream. Gary also suggested that Chris and the school reach out to 50 famous DJs on Instagram and if they can get 1 DJ to say yes, it will make the students get more excited about their virtual event. Though it may take a lot of planning among the school staff, teachers, parents, and students, the end result will make everyone happy.

On tips to support children:

Gary recalled that when he was still in high school, some teachers are humane towards him, but they didn’t curriculum him individually based on the things that he is interested in. And when Gary found out that Chris and his school is having a class called “real world- ready”, he was very happy and offered to give a lecture to the kids next year.
