Michael’s Question or Topic

Michael just finished school with a mechanical degree and has been sober for over 4 years now. For a very long time, he suppressed who he really was through drugs and alcohol and let other people decide his life. Now that he’s sober, he feels lost and wondering if it’s okay to like and be interested in the things that he wants for himself.

Michael also fears not being competent enough to be a mechanic and failing at the first job he got since he got out of drug addiction.

Gary’s Story and Advices

Gary’s answer is yes to everything. It’s okay for Michael to do everything he wants to do because he is in charge of his life now and he gets to be the judge and the jury. Gary remembers being made fun by 90% of his business friends for doing garage sale videos, but he didn’t mind them.

Of Michael fearing failure, Gary said that if he fails at being a mechanic, then that just means he’s not a good mechanic and he just has to move on and find another job he’s good it. The reason why Michael is afraid of failing and is still doubting himself is that he cares about what other people will say about him. He should stop worrying about other people’s opinions and live his life the way he wants to.

Gary is also proud of Michael. It’s hard to be in drug addiction for a decade and actually get out because most people can’t do it.
