Sam is a person fortunate enough to have the things he wanted because he has successful and supportive parents. However, he tends to battle with them a lot nowadays for different reasons. He shared that he got diagnosed with mental problems and even lost the job he’s been trying to get for years due to coronavirus. Sam is with Gary right now to ask for help since he feels that he is not giving back.
Also, Sam wanted to ask advice on how to be true to himself since he has always been sporting the fake version of him since middle school.
Gary’s Story and Advices
Gary understands Sam’s situation. Many people of his age group are turning it to anger towards their parents, instead of taking on the accountability of not taking the money.
Sam needs to take a step back and lean into the framework of happiness. Like others, many people get caught up in financial success, which is often not the right way. And so Sam needs to think about what makes him happy. He can’t look at the world through the eyes of his parents, society, his girlfriend, nor his therapist. He needs to look at it at his perspective, and be strong enough to over-communicate.
Gary also instructed Sam to search what his great interests are and that is hockey, which is somewhat related to Gary’s since he’s crazy about the Jets. Sam has always wanted to do a podcast but didn’t know if people would listen, so Gary convinced him that there will always be people who share his interest and would listen. He just has to start doing it.
